Bmi to start codeshare with Air India

19 Aug 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Bmi will place its code on Air India routes from London to Delhi and Mumbai, and selected domestic Indian flights, while Air India will codeshare on Bmi UK and Ireland routes from Heathrow.

Bmi has yet to officially announce the move, although a spokesperson confirmed to Business Traveller that the codeshare agreement will commence on August 24.

Plans for a codeshare between the two carriers was unveiled in several Indian newspapers earlier this year, and industry website airlineroute.net published more details of the agreement this week.

According to the site Bmi will place its code on routes from Delhi to London Heathrow, Amritsar, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata, and on flights from Mumbai to Heathrow, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Gwalior, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

Air India will in turn place its code on Bmi flights from Heathrow to Aberdeen, Belfast City, Dublin, Edinburgh and Manchester.

The move comes ahead of the launch of Bmi flights from London to the northern Indian city of Amritsar (via Almaty), which begin on October 13 (see online news June 21).

Air India’s inauguration into the Star Alliance (of which Bmi is also a member) was recently suspended (see online news August 1), with the alliance saying that Air India had "not met the minimum joining conditions".
