Bmi has announced it is cutting several domestic and short-haul European services, including the scrapping of flights from Heathrow to Leeds and Durham, and the reduction of its Amsterdam service.
The carrier has sent an email to its Diamond Club members detailing the cuts, which will largely take place at the end of March. They include the end of flights between Heathrow and Leeds Bradford, and a reduction in frequency of daily flights to both Amsterdam (down from seven to four) and Dublin (down from seven to six).
Bmi will also be
cutting capacity on its Heathrow to Brussels and Aberdeen routes, by replacing its
current Airbus A320s with smaller Embraer aircraft. German carrier Lufthansa is
due to complete its takeover of Bmi in the next few weeks, having announced in
October that it would be taking its stake in the airline to 80 per cent (see online news October 29, 2008).
