Bmi goes double daily to Moscow
Published: 04/09/2008 - Filed under: News »
Bmi will launch a second daily flight between London Heathrow and Moscow Domodedovo starting October 26.
The airline has served the Russian city daily since October 2006, but this additional service will firmly position the carrier as a key player on the lucrative route, previously dominated by British Airways and Russian airline Aeroflot.
The new service is an overnight flight leaving Heathrow at 2155 (five minutes earlier than BA’s T5 evening flight – except Wednesdays) arriving in Moscow early the following day at 0445. The return flight leaves Moscow at 1810 arriving in London at 1940.
Bmi operates two cabins on its Airbus A320 with 20 business class seats and 108 in economy. Business class passengers will benefit from a 127 cm seat pitch (41 cm more than other carriers on the route according to Bmi), 49cm seat width and 31cm / 35 degree seat recline.
The UK-Russia aviation treaty restricts rivals BA and Aeroflot to each operating a maximum of 21 flights a week from London. Bmi has made use of its partnership with the Russian Federation carrier Transeaero, which is also increasing its daily flights. The two airlines will now offer between them, four flights daily in each direction, with convenient connections for passengers with onward flights.
Lead-in fares with Bmi start from £247, return in economy and £1,421 return in business class. When Business Traveller checked flights with British Airways on ba.com for an outward flight on Sunday October 26th returning on October 30th, return fares in economy started from £950 and business class from £1,772 (BA imposes a Saturday night restriction for its cheapest fares).
