BA winter schedule changes

There are winners and losers in the latest BA schedule changes, with the number of flights increasing from Heathrow to Barcelona and Prague, but flights from Gatwick to destinations including Malta, Krakow and Madrid being dropped.

The winter schedule (which comes into affect on October 25) will see daily flights from Heathrow to Barcelona being increased from five to seven per day, and those from Heathrow to Prague increasing from three to four per day.

But Gatwick will see a number of cuts, with flights to Alicante, Palma, Malta, Madrid, Barcelona and Krakow being dropped. In addition routes from Gatwick to Pisa, Malaga and Gibraltar will move to Heathrow.

Long-haul changes include additional flights from Gatwick to Bermuda (up from five to six per week), Barbados (from nine to ten per week) and St Lucia and Port of Spain (from three to five per week), as well as the new route from Heathrow to Las Vegas previously announced on businesstraveller.com (see online news May 17), and new flights from Gatwick to Sharm El Sheikh, Innsbruck, Male, Punta Cana and Montego Bay.

Seems like BA is all but abandoning Gatwick for European routes -especially Spain. This is changing the whole nature of Gatwick. What was once a pleasant relief from Heathrow is now increasingly crowded and dominated by low-cost and charter airlines with all the bucket and spade crowd that brings. Unbelievable to discover that not one airline flies from Gatwick to Paris.
