British Airways is to paint several of its short and long-haul aircraft with a specially commissioned dove livery, as part of its sponsorship of the London 2012 Games.
The livery has been created by designer Pascal Anson, who was chosen from entries into BA’s Great Britons programme, and has been mentored by Tracey Emin.
BA says that the artwork - which will appear on several aircraft including an A319 - “remains in progress” and will be unveiled in April. The carrier added that it will use “the entire livery of the aircraft to redefine the way you look at it”.
Commenting on his choice of a dove for the livery for the aircraft, Anson said that “Not only are they a symbol of peace and social unity, but they were also used in previous Olympic Games ceremonies, including the last London Games in 1948”.
The special livery is one of three Great Britons projects set to be unveiled in April, the others being a London 2012 menu, created by Simon Hulstone with support from Michelin-star chef Heston Blumenthal, and a short film written by Prasanna Puwanarajah with mentoring from Richard E Grant.
