BA to mark Olympic “One Year to Go” milestone

British Airways has painted the belly one of its Airbus A318 aircraft with the words “One Year to Go”, to celebrate the London 2012 milestone.
The aircraft, used on the carrier’s London City to new York route, will depart at 1305 tomorrow (July 27) on flight BA001, with footage of the event set to be added on BA’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/flybritishairways. Business Traveller will add the video to this piece when it becomes available.
Former Olympic Gold medallist Denise Lewis unveiled the aircraft at London City airport. British Airways is the official airline partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. As part of its partnership the carrier is offering “career-defining opportunities to three talented Brits in the fields of food, film and art” in its Great Briton Programme. Just one aircraft? That's a bit lame. How about a few 747 and 777s at LHR, and what is wrong with the other A318 used on the LCY-SNN-JFK route?

Painting aircraft is a costly undertaking!

This was only done for one day with peel on/off decals.
The reason the A318 was used is that it was the largest aircraft near to the Olympic park; it makes sense for BA to use the proximity of LCY to the park to publicise the service.
There will be several of the longhaul 777/747 LHR fleet with Olympic designs nearer the time.
