BA Cityflyer will cease flights from London City to Copenhagen at the end of May, as it prepares to add new routes and increased frequencies from the airport.
The BA subsidiary has confirmed that its service to the Danish capital will cease on May 26.
A spokesperson said that “Despite our best efforts this route is just not successful and with no signs of improvement the decision was made to use the aircraft on a route where there is a commercial need”.
The carrier is launching new summer routes to Mahon in Menorca, Angers in the Loire Valley, and Quimper in Brittany in May (see online news February 7), and will also add frequencies to its LCY-Glasgow service, and launch flights to Aberdeen (see online news April 25) and Venice (see online news March 27) later this year.
The move will leave no direct flights between LCY and Copenhagen – SAS has previously served the route in partnership with the now defunct Cimber Sterling.
BA also offers flights from Heathrow to Copenhagen, while Easyjet flies from Gatwick and Stansted, Norwegian operates from Gatwick, and SAS flies from Heathrow.
