Park Plaza has announced plans to open its first Art’otel in the Dutch capital. It will be the group’s tenth Art’otel-branded hotel, with the opening date set for early 2011.

The hotel will open in the Kadaster building, opposite the city’s Central station. It will have 100 guest rooms, an art café and a ground floor and basement space for showcasing art, and holding cultural and social events.

The hotel will be part of a city regeneration project to redevelop the Kadaster building, which was formerly the head office for shipping company Koninklijke Hollandsche Lloyd, as well as the surrounding area. In recent years, the building has been home the city’s land registry office (Kadaster), which has now relocated.

Boris Ivesha, president and chief executive at Park Plaza Hotels said: “To develop our first Art’otel in Amsterdam is an exciting evolution. With Art’otel Amsterdam, we bring a modern, contemporary and edgy hotel to the city’s accommodation offering, presenting guests who have a passion for art and travel the unique opportunity to literally sleep in an art gallery.”

The hotel group currently has two Park Plaza hotels in Amsterdam – the Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam, also located near the Central station, and Park Plaza Vondelpark Amsterdam, near Leidseplein Square.

Art'otel is Park Plaza Hotels’ lifestyle brand and there are several openings in the pipeline. Cologne and Marrakech will open this year and London is set for its 2012 debut. There are currently five Art’otels in Germany and one in Hungary.
