Arik chooses JPA to design 777-300ER interiors

Not content with purchasing several of Kingfisher’s A340 aircraft (with brand new fully flat seats), Nigerian carrier Arik Air has appointed award-winning designers James Park Associates (JPA) to design the interiors of its new Boeing 777-300ERs.

JPA has been gradually carving a niche for itself in the aircraft interiors market, having designed the business class seats on Singapore Airlines’ A380s and the first class suites on JAL’s B777-300ERs. The company has also been chosen to carry out Gulf Air’s forthcoming revamp, to include aircraft interiors, livery, uniform and lounges (see online news April 11, 2008).

This latest commission will see JPA design the interiors of Arik’s forthcoming 777-300ERs, as well as helping Arik Air to decide on the aircraft configuration and “positioning in the market”. The designers will also “advise on ground facilities, such as passenger lounges”. The new aircraft are expected to come online in the first quarter of 2011.

The news comes just a couple of months after Arik launched flights from London to Lagos using A340-500 aircraft originally designed for Kingfisher Airlines. These planes include a fully-flat seating product in business class, as well as features such as a communal bar area (see online news December 10, 2008).
