Argentina moves to evict LAN from airport

Latin America’s biggest carrier LATAM may have to stop domestic flights within Argentina after being ordered to leave its hangar at Buenos Aires’ domestic airport.
LATAM’s subsidiary LAN Argentina has been served with an eviction notice to leave the hangar at Jorge Newbery airport in the Argentine capital, according to reports.
LAN Argentina said it had been given 10 days to leave the hangar and has received no explanation for the eviction notice.
Airport authorities in Argentina said that the eviction was “in the national interest” but did not give any further reasons for the move, according to theBBC.
LAN Argentina competes on domestic routes in Argentina against the state-owned carrier Aerolineas Argentinas. LAN has 10 aircraft based at the airport and said it would not be able to continue operating without the use of its hangar.
“We'll go to the courts to enforce our rights,” added a spokesman for LAN Argentina.
Hector Recalde, president of Aerolineas Argentinas, said that the conflict with LAN “has to do with other things and the hangar is being used as an excuse”.
He added that LAN held a “privileged position” within Argentina’s domestic air market and the government was seeking to create a system that was “more just in its proportional distribution and priority given Aerolineas Argentinas as Argentina's airline”.

Basic protectionism as we should not see any more...

Typical protectionist, criminal behaviour of the Kirchner government. It could also be electioneering on her part, or simply an attempt to show power to a population suffering from her government`s lack of effecitve governance. Aerolineas Argentinas is a dreadful airline, a basket case where the government has placed various people in high positions to thank them for their support. The sooner the corrupt Kirchner regime is over, the better!

Ouch! I was hoping to use LAN for some internal flights in November from AEP and I really hope they sort this out soon.
BT please keep us updated on developments.
