ANA to launch B787 premium economy on Frankfurt route

22 Aug 2013 by Alex McWhirter

Haneda is by far the most convenient airport to access downtown Tokyo. But economy class passengers flying with ANA on or after September 1 may wish to consider using Tokyo's main, but less convenient, international airport.

That is because ANA has announced that the first international route for its reconfigured B787 Dreamliner will be Frankfurt to Tokyo Haneda.

Why should this affect economy class passengers ?

Because the new version of ANA's B787s will have a premium economy cabin (ANA's original B787s were configured two-class business and economy) and to find the space (for premium economy) the regular economy cabin is being downgraded from eight across (2-4-2) to the tighter nine across (3-3-3) layout (see news, July 4).

By contrast the Frankfurt-Tokyo Narita route continues to be served by one of ANA's B777-300ERs which, although configured 3-3-3, offer more sideways space because of the B777's wider cabin.

Seating on ANA's new B787s comprises a total of 169 seats with 46 in the business cabin, 21 in premium economy and 102 in normal economy (to see a seatplan, click here).

The reconfigured B787 will enter service on September 1. It is scheduled to operate inbound flight NH203 which departs Haneda at 0100 and arrives the same morning into Frankfurt at 0610. The flight returns as NH204, departing Frankfurt at 1200 to give an arrival into Haneda at 0625 the next day.
