Aloft Cupertino due summer 2013

27 Mar 2012 by ScottCarey7

Starwood Hotels and Resorts has announced its second Aloft-branded hotel in Silicon Valley as it continues a global growth push.

The 123-room property is planned to open in the summer of 2013 and will feature “loft-like rooms, forward thinking technology and a vibrant, social atmosphere.”

Hotel amenities will include a 24-hour fitness centre, indoor pool, 2,000 square feet of meeting space and a Wxyz bar.

Aloft is Starwood’s mid-range lifestyle brand with a similar target market to its W hotels of young, tech savvy travellers, with a focus on trendy design, music and sociability.

Aloft Cupertino is the brand's third property in California, and the second in Silicon Valley following the opening of Aloft San Francisco Airport in 2012. The hotel will hope to serve the wealthy, educated, technology-driven population of the Silicon Valley region.

Cupertino is home to the world headquarters of Apple, as well as technology giants Hewlett Packard, Oracle and IBM.

Brian McGuinness, senior vice president, speciality select brands for Starwood said, “Aloft Cupertino will offer a compelling blend of style and social interplay that will appeal to both travellers and professionals in this energetic high-tech hub.”

In a separate statement Starwood announced its intention to grow the Aloft brand portfolio up to 70, from a current 55, by the end of 2013. This will include conversions and adaptive-reuse projects in the USA, Latin America, China, India and Kuala Lumpur (see online news November 24, 2011).

Starwood has recently opened its first Aloft property in London, located adjacent to the Excel conference centre (see online news October 31, 2011). For our First Look feature on the London property see online news November 10, 2011.
