Air France is to retrofit its first four superjumbos with Premium Voyageur seating in order to “enrich and standardise the capacity of the Airbus A380 fleet”.

The carrier currently has six A380s (with a further six on order), of which only the last two were delivered with the Premium Voyageur product on board. The four without the premium economy cabin will now be retrofitted by December 12.

The announcement was made as Air France KLM released its revised winter schedule, which “aims to adapt to the changes in the various markets with a focus on lowering production costs, on both long and medium-haul routes”.

In practice this means an increase in Air France flights to Latin America, Africa, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean, with a new Air France winter season route to Cancun, increased seat capacity to Caracas and Santiago de Chile, increased frequencies to Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh and Guangzhou, and the launch of direct winter services to Cape Town.

However the carrier is cancelling two of its seven weekly frequencies to New York Newark, and cutting one of its five daily services to New York JFK during the winter season. Flights to the Middle East will also be decreased, with frequencies cut on routes to Cairo, Beirut, Amman and Damascus.

Air France also launched its new base at Marseille on October 2, with ten new international routes including Athens, Copenhagen, Istanbul, Milan, Moscow and Prague.
