The Italian carrier has taken delivery of the first of two Airbus A330 aircraft, featuring new seating in economy and business, as well as the debut of the airline’s premium economy offering.

The aircraft will ply intercontinental routes from Milan Malpensa this summer, and are configured for 28 Magnifica (business) seats, 21 Classica Plus (premium economy) seats, and 175 Classica (economy) seats.

Alitalia says the new Magnifica offering features leather seats which “extend into a fully flat bed position”. The layout is 1-2-1, and the seats include a 15.4-inch TV screen with 12 audio channels and 40 films, as well as privacy screens, noise reduction headsets, duvets and Frette pillows.

As reported by businesstraveller.com earlier this year (see online news March 15), the brand new Classica Plus seats recline to 120 degrees, and have around 25 per cent more space than the economy seating. Benefits of the premium economy service include priority check-in and boarding, double award miles, welcome drink and hot towel, and increased baggage allowance on flights to North America.

Finally the new Classica offering features seats reclining up to 110 degrees, with nine-inch TV screens and Frette blankets.

Alitalia says that “a reconfiguration programme of the Boeing 777 fleet is also planned which will lead a harmonization of the entire Alitalia intercontinental fleet”.
