Confusion is set to reign at UK airports today, with different hand-baggage restrictions in place depending on departure airport.
It had been thought that from today passengers would be able to take up to a maximum of two pieces of hand baggage into the cabin compared with the single piece allowed up until yesterday.
But although airlines operating from most major UK airports (including Heathrow, Stansted, London City, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh) now allow passengers to take up to a maximum of two items on board, several do not.
The latter include East Midlands, Leeds and Luton – Gatwick is also retaining the one-bag restriction, except for passengers connecting through the airport’s South Terminal (and North Terminal connections from February 11).
The confusion is compounded by the fact that budget carriers may still be enforcing the one-item rule while other carriers may restrict the number of cabin bag items depending on class of travel. Readers intending to take along more than one piece of hand baggage are recommended to check with the airline or airport website.
