Bmi and BA have both cancelled their flights from London Heathrow to Tripoli today (Tuesday February 22), due to the continuing political unrest in Libya.
Bmi had only launched its Tripoli route this week (see online news February 21), but a post on the carrier’s official Twitter page confirms that:
“Due to continued disruption we have had to cancel today's flights BD0469 LHR-TIP / BD0470 TIP-LHR”
BA also confirmed that today’s flights had been cancelled, and said that it would be “reviewing the situation” regarding the rest of the week’s flights.
Both carriers are offering refunds or rebooking for flights booked up to February 27.
A spokesperson for Gatwick airport (from where Afriqiyah Airways operates a daily service to Tripoli), said that this morning's flight from Tripoli is on its way to London (as at 1030 GMT). The return journey is due to depart Gatwick at 1130, although it's unclear at this stage whether the service will depart as scheduled.
Libyan Airlines also serves Heathrow twice-weekly, but these flights depart on Wednesday and Saturday.
