Air India to fly Dreamliner to London in August

6 Jun 2012 by BusinessTraveller

The first international flight for Air India's B787 Dreamliner will be between Mumbai and London in August, according to a BBC report.

The carrier had been due to take delivery of its first Dreamliner aircraft by the end of May (see online news May 29), but this was postponed while Air India reportedly sought compensation from Boeing due to the delayed delivery of the B787.

This issue is now believed to have been resolved, and local media including The Economic Times quote India’s Civil Aviation minister Ajit Singh as saying that that Air India will now take delivery of three Dreamliner aircraft this month, with plans to initially operate the aircraft on domestic routes, before rostering the B787 onto routes to London in August, followed by Australia.

Air India pilots have been striking over the last month in a dispute over flight training for the Boeing Dreamliner aircraft, and Singh said that new pilots would now been recruited to replace those sacked due to the industrial action.
