Air Canada will launch its new leisure subsidiary Air Canada Rouge next year, with inaugural flights operating between Edinburgh and Toronto.
Earlier this year we reported that the carrier was planning to launch a new low-cost subsidiary, flying to destinations in Europe, the US and the Caribbean (see online news August 9).
Details have now been announced, with the Edinburgh-Toronto service launching on July 3, 2013, operating three flights per week over the summer season until October 18.
Flight AC1905 will depart Edinburgh on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 1020, landing into Toronto at 1245, with the return leg AC1904 leaving the Canadian city on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 2035, landing into Edinburgh at 0830 the following day.
Air Canada Rouge will also operate flights between Toronto and Venice next year, and existing seasonal Air Canada flights from Toronto and Montreal to Athens will also be flown by the new subsidiary.
In addition Air Canada flights operated in cooperation with Air Canada Vacations to Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Costa Rica will be operated by Air Canada Rouge from July next year.
Flights will be served by Boeing B767-300ER aircraft, with a two-class configuration.
Passengers will be able to opt for Rouge Plus seats with additional seat pitch (35 inches compared with 30 inches in standard economy seats), and Premium Rouge seats featuring a 2-2-2 layout, with a seat pitch of 37 inches, recline of seven inches, and seat width of 18.5 inches between the armrests.

The carrier will also operate two Airbus A319s in an all-economy configuration, for flights within North America.
The aircraft will be sourced from Air Canada’s existing fleet, as they are freed up by the delivery of new B777-300ER aircraft, and Air Canada Rouge plans to expand to other holiday destinations as mainline Air Canada takes delivery of Boeing Dreamliner aircraft in 2014.
