Air Berlin will add a Platinum status to its Topbonus frequent flyer programme when it joins the Oneworld alliance later this month. The new tier is equivalent to the alliance’s Emerald status.
Members will receive Platinum status when they earn 100,000 Topbonus status miles within a 12-month period.
The carrier says that benefits of the new tier will include a personal customer service team, business class upgrade vouchers and Air Berlin Topbonus Silver status for spouses, as well as access to Oneworld first class lounges.
Air Berlin’s new Platinum status will equate to Oneworld’s Emerald tier, while the existing Topbonus Gold tier will match with Sapphire status, and Silver will equate to Oneworld’s Ruby status.
Air Berlin will officially join the Oneworld alliance on Tuesday March 20. Business Traveller will be attending the inauguration ceremony in Berlin, and will post a report on this site following the event.
