Aeromexico has completed the first Atlantic crossing using biofuel in one of its aircraft. Last week, an Aeromexico Boeing 777-200ER carrying over 250 passengers flew from Mexico City to Madrid.
The Boeing's General Electric engines were powered by a blend of 70 percent traditional fuel and 30 percent biofuel provided by the ASA.
The airline plans to start using biofuel on its Boeing 737-700 aircraft to destinations such as San Jose and Costa Rica over the next year.
The flight follows the Mexican airline Interjet’s first biofuel-powered commercial flight in Latin America from Mexico City to Tuxtla Gutierrez a little over a week ago.
