Aberdeen airport becomes “International”
Published: 08/01/2013 - Filed under: News »
Aberdeen airport has undergone a name and logo change, to become Aberdeen International airport.
The move follows the dropping of the BAA brand from Ferrovial’s UK airport portfolio last year (see online news October 16, 2012), namely Heathrow, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Southampton and Stansted.
In a statement the airport said that the change “sees the word ‘International’ officially adopted into the registered name of the company, and the introduction of a fresh and strong new colour scheme”.

The airport offers several international routes to destinations including Amsterdam, Bergen, Copenhagen, Dublin, Esbjerg, Frankfurt, Groningen, Paris and Stavanger, and MD Derek Provan said that the name change "sends a strong message to our passengers and the wider community of our intentions to continue to grow Aberdeen as an international airport".
“We have formally introduced the word 'International' into the registered name of the company, and will wear this with pride as a driver of our aspirations. We have been successful in recent years in introducing new international routes to Aberdeen, and will continue to strive to do so. This launch signals our intentions in a bold public manner.”
The new name will be rolled out across all aspects of the business over the next few months.

I laugh at my local airport of Newcastle been called international because of some charter flights to the States and one to Dubai with Emirates. I think a airport should only call itself international when it secures at least 3 scheduled routes to countries outside Europe and northern Africa.
