American Airlines
American Airlines is to launch a daily non-stop service between Los Angeles and Hong Kong from September 7. The new route – tickets for which will be available from March 20 – will be operated by B777-300ER aircraft as part of the carrier’s joint business with Japan Airlines. Flights will depart LA at 0155, arriving into Hong Kong at 0810 the following day, with the return leg leaving Hong Kong at 2020 and landing back into the US city at 1840. Commenting on the new route AA’s chief marketing officer Andrew Nocella said: “We announced new domestic Los Angeles routes at the end of January, and customers let us know they wanted more great service to even more destinations. “This route connects customers in Los Angeles with one of the world’s most important business markets and provides convenient connections to important business and leisure destinations across the Pacific.” Cathay Pacific is currently the only carrier to offer a non-stop service between Hong Kong and Los Angeles. It’s worth noting that although Cathay also operates the route using B777-300ER aircraft, its economy class cabins are currently configured nine across (3-3-3), whereas AA has opted for ten across (3-4-3) economy seating on its B777-300ERs. aa.com Mark Caswell
