Business Traveller rounds up new and upcoming worldwide hotels, from brands including Hilton, Motel One, IHG and Hyatt.
Hyatt Regency Amsterdam
This is the first hotel under the Hyatt Regency brand to open in the Dutch capital, and the third Hyatt hotel in The Netherlands, joining the Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht and Hyatt Place Amsterdam Airport. Located in the De Plantage neighbourhood, the hotel is half an hour’s drive from Schiphol airport, offering 211 rooms, a 24-hour gym and sauna, a restaurant and bar and 517 sqm of event space, including a ballroom with an adjacent foyer.
Crowne Plaza Felbridge
Following a £3 million refurbishment, Crowne Plaza Felbridge has opened with 116 redesigned rooms and updated conference facilities. Located ten miles from Gatwick airport, it has also unveiled a new Club Lounge, offering a free buffet breakfast, evening hors d’oeuvres, alcoholic drinks and use of a tablet and/or PC. The hotel’s spa, which includes a gym, an indoor pool and a steam room, will be upgraded later this year.
Motel One Berlin Upper West
The budget design chain has opened its ninth property in Berlin, located near the Kurfurstendamm metro station in west Berlin. With 582 rooms set across 19 floors, the hotel features the brand’s signature One Lounge, which, alongside a bar and roof terrace, is filled with furniture from luxury Italian brand Baxter and memorabilia that pays tribute to the golden age of cinema. Rooms include a 40-inch smart TV and rain shower, alongside tailored additions such as a Freifrau leather armchair, Artemide floor lamp and B&B Italia table.
Hilton Makkah Convention Hotel
Overlooking the Grand Mosque, the 764-room hotel is home to the largest pillar-less ballroom in Mecca, able to hold 1,600 people, along with the city’s first convention centre, with eight meeting rooms. Malaysian, Indian and Lebanese are among the cuisines available at the hotel’s three restaurants, while a café offers light snacks. Guests also have access to a 24-hour gym.
Holiday Inn Bellingham
A five-minute drive from Washington’s Bellingham International airport, the 153-room Holiday Inn Bellingham has opened, debuting the brand’s new H4 room design, designed to offer “a flexible solution that adapts to each guests’ individual needs”. Facilities include an indoor saline pool with steam room and sauna, a gym and restaurant, serving Pacific Northwest cuisine.
Four Points by Sheraton Kolasin
Nestled in the mountain town of Kolasin in Montenegro, the Four Points by Sheraton Kolasin is the brand’s first ski resort in Europe, offering 72 rooms. A ten-minute drive from Kolasin’s ski lifts, the hotel has two restaurants, including one serving Montengran cuisine, plus a bar, a 270 sqm spa, a gym and parking facilities.
Courtyard Santa Monica
Located a few blocks from Santa Monica Pier, the 136-room hotel has a second-storey pool, a spa, a gym, a convenience store and a café that serves light snacks and Starbucks beverages. Featuring beach-themed décor, rooms come with wooden plank floors, a desk and ergonomic chair, flat screen TVs and free wifi, while the hotel’s environmentally-friendly efforts come in the form of LED lighting and solar heated water.

Sir Joan Ibiza
Overlooking the island’s port and old town, Sir Hotels is set to open its first property in Ibiza this June. In its public areas, the 38-room Sir Joan hotel will feature vertical green walls and minimalist waterfalls while outdoors, a wraparound pool will be fringed with cabanas and lounge chairs. There will be two restaurants: the hotel’s signature Peruvian-Japanese outpost, Izakaya, and The Butcher, a high-end burger bar. Each room will have a balcony, with stripped wooden yacht flooring and polished stainless steel wall panels designed to emulate the movement of waves.
The Palace Hotel, Burgenstock Resort Hotel Lake Lucerne
Already home to an alpine spa, golf course, funicular and conference centre, the Burgenstock Resort Hotel Lake Lucerne resort will be adding yet another asset with the opening of The Palace Hotel this summer. Originally built in 1904, this is Burgenstock’s fourth luxury property, offering 108 rooms, and renovated with marble pillars, parquet flooring and blown glass chandeliers. The hotel shares facilities across the resort, which include ten restaurants, tennis courts and a curling facility, while the conference centre offers a total 2,200 sqm of event space, including 31 meeting rooms and a ballroom which can hold 500 people.
