Sir Hotels is set to open a Hamburg property in May.

The group’s fourth hotel, the 94-room Sir Nikolai will be located in Hamburg’s old town in a former warehouse, within walking distance of the newly opened Elbphilharmonie concert hall and city centre.

Designed by Amsterdam-based studio FG Stijl, it will have an atrium lounge, library, spa and izakaya-style restaurant offering Japanese/Peruvian cuisine, with elements that reflect the city’s maritime history such as custom-made furniture, vintage pieces and curated artwork from local galleries.

Entering the hotel, guests will be welcomed into a library with an open fireplace, large bookshelves and a lounge area. Next to this, there will be an atrium with a retractable glass roof, where the Izakaya Asian Kitchen and Bar will extend out onto two sun terraces.

All areas will flow into one another, offering private seating, a large wooden communal table, panoramic bar serving rare types of sake and homemade Shochu, plus a private dining area for meetings or events. The menu features fresh sushi, sashimi and other delicacies prepared on a traditional Robata-grill or in a Hibachi-fire bowl.

Rooms and suites are furnished with queen and king size beds, chaise longues, armchairs and working desks in a palette of emerald, brown and mustard. Curated artwork from historical photographs to old nautical charts complement the views of nearby St Nikolai Church and the City Hall.

On the hotel’s lower level, a 300 sqm spa with floor-to-ceiling windows will feature a pool, sauna, steam bath, gym and three treatment rooms, due to open in the second half of 2017.

Sir Nikolai is the second Sir Hotel in Germany, joining the Sir Savigny in Berlin, the Sir Albert in Amsterdam and the group’s most recent opening, the Sir Adam in Amsterdam.
