First look: W Las Vegas

9 Feb 2017 by Marisa Cannon

W Las Vegas has released new images of the property, which opened in December.

Made up of three towers, the hotel’s 289 rooms have been designed by Philippe Starck with whimsical wall features, brightly-coloured textiles and statement furnishings.

The hotel’s Living Room bar was inspired by casino tables and features secluded seating areas in a nod to the hotel’s 1950s incarnation as The Sahara Hotel. Behind the bar, artist Keith Lemley has created a neon art “desert garden”, adding an element of the natural environment in which the hotel is located.

Emphasising the hotel’s history, the lift lobby is lined with playing cards taken from the original Sahara casino, while at the front desk an art installation made from poker chips dominates, hand-signed by the workers that built the hotel.

In the public areas, there is a boardwalk-style fortune teller named Booker Glam who issues words of wisdom to guests who approach him.

Other facilities include a spa, fitness centre, and seven food and beverage options including the Philippe Starck-designed steakhouse Bazaar Meat by Jose Andres, Egyptian eatery Cleo, Unami Burger, and Japanese restaurant Katsuya. The 221 sqm Extreme Wow Suite was designed by musician Lenny Kravitz.

The hotel is set to celebrate its grand opening in March, debuting features such as the Wet Deck, its rooftop pool and deck which offers panoramic views of the city.
