YTL Hotels has acquired its fifth UK property, located in the City of London.
The Malaysian hotel group reportedly bought the Threadneedles Hotel for £9.9 million – now the group’s second Autograph Collection property in the UK, after The Glasshouse in Edinburgh.
The group owns two additional Autograph properties worldwide, including The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur and Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur, which is set to open next month.
Formerly the head offices of City and Midland Bank from the 1880s, the 74-room hotel has blended contemporary room design with period features in the public spaces, which include an ornate 19th century stained glass dome, corniced ceilings and wrought-iron window grilles.
A ten-minute walk from London Liverpool Street, the hotel is home to Marco Pierre White’s renowned Wheeler’s of St James’s Oyster Bar and Grill Room, which is set in the building’s former banking hall.
Commenting on the acquisition, executive director of YTL Hotels Dato’ Mark Yeoh said:
“We are excited to secure yet another iconic Autograph Collection property in partnership with Marriott International to further expand our hospitality footprint within the United Kingdom. Our relationship with Marriott International has spanned over two decades through the ownership management and future development of ten properties across three major continents – Europe, Australia and Asia, and together we will continue to set new benchmarks for the hospitality industry for years to come.”
