Low-cost airline Flydubai has launched a new loyalty programme called OPEN.

Membership will earn travellers one reward point for every USD spent on flights and pre-paid flight extras such as extra legroom, checked baggage and preordered meals.

Members can claim points up to 90 days after a purchase, and point bonuses are awarded to business class fliers.

The programme also allows members to pool their points by forming Travel Clubs of up to seven people, all of whom have access to 100 per cent of the group’s points.

Points can be redeemed on flights or pre-paid extras, and travellers have the option of combining points with cash if necessary.

Flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith said, “We are committed to introducing product innovations that enhance the overall customer experience with flydubai. We’ve designed this rewards programme to be less restrictive and instantly rewarding. It is transparent and straight-to-the-point. That’s why we call it OPEN.”

As they earn rewards points, members also earn tier points to help them advance to Gold membership status. Gold members earn up to ten times more rewards points than standard members, but must meet yearly points quotas to retain their status.

Flydubai has partnered with Dubai Islamic Bank to offer an OPEN rewards credit card (geographical restrictions apply), which earns users additional OPEN points. No other partnerships have been announced so far, but the airline plans to work with hotel and transportation companies in the future.

The UAE-based carrier services over 90 locations across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe with a fleet of 45 Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft.
