Air India inks a free flow codeshare agreement with French airline, Air Austral.

The Indian national carrier will codeshare on Air Austral’s flights on the Chennai-Réunion-Chennai route and beyond Réunion to/from Johannesburg, Seychelles, Mauritius and Madagascar.

Air Austral will also place its marketing code on Air India operated flights beyond Chennai to/from Mumbai, Delhi and Kochi.

The French-airline based in Réunion has been operating flights on the Réunion-Chennai-Bangkok route since 2013. November onwards, flights to the Thailand-capital will be discontinued, leaving all the capacity to the France-India route.

“As a national carrier and Star Alliance member carrier, Air India feels honoured to enter into this codeshare agreement with Air Austral. This agreement will enable Air India to reach out to destinations in the Indian Ocean and Africa. We look forward to expand our relationship with Air Austral in future. Air India already has code share partnerships with 14 other prestigious airlines across the globe and Air Austral will be the 15th code share partner of Air India,” says Seema Srivastava, executive director of strategy and planning at Air India.
