Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will purchase eight Boeing 787 aircraft that will be inducted to its fleet from mid-2017.

The airline’s fleet currently consists of 11 ATR 42/72, nine A310, 11 A320, one A330 and 11 B777.

PIA will start receiving the aircraft from mid-June 2017. The B787 planes are fuel efficient and can carry up to 400 people at a time. Details on what routes they will serve haven’t been revealed by the airline yet.

Further, PIA will extend its Premier service on the Karachi-London route from October this year.

The premier service was launched on August 14 on routes from Islamabad (Mondays and Wednesdays) and Lahore (Tuesdays) to London. It is served by the wet-leased A330 from Sri Lankan airlines.

Premium service includes in-flight entertainment with 250 channels displayed on LCD screens across all cabin classes. Business class passengers enjoy a flat-bed service. A free limousine service is available to premier business class passengers on arrival at Heathrow, for transfer within a 25km radius of the airport.
