Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport expects to cross 1.6 million in terms of international passenger traffic by financial year 2016-17.
In the last financial year, it received 1.25 million international passengers. In June 2016, there was a 59.6 per cent increase in footfall from June 2015.
Last year, international passenger traffic between April-June was computed at 69,507 and this year it was 1,10,916.
The reason behind this increased traffic is due to the increased launch of international operations at Amritsar Airport in the last one year.

Amritsar in the North Indian state of Punjab, is famous for its Golden Temple, shawls and rice production, and receives large numbers of national and international tourists daily.
In the wake of this increasing traffic, Rajya Sabha member, Shwait Malik has promised a grant of ₹200 crores to the airport. He says, “The first floor of the terminal building will be getting a major facelift. It will also have two more aerobridges.”
