Almost one in ten car hirers (nine percent) have arrived to collect their hire car only to be told that none were available, according to a new YouGov survey which looked at the experience of hiring a car.
In addition, the survey found that travellers often face a long wait when they arrive to pick up their car with one in five (20%) queuing for more than half an hour to be served at the rental desk. Uncertainty continues when they get to the desk, with almost a third (32%) then given a better car than they booked.
Once served, 19 per cent of car hirers reportedly find the process stressful and are shocked by extras such as insurance and paying for an extra driver.
The survey was commissioned from YouGov by icarhireinsurance.com.
