SAS pilot strike continues

13 Jun 2016 by BusinessTraveller

Disruption is continuing to flights operated by Scandinavian carrier SAS, with a strike by Swedish pilots set to enter a fifth day.

Around 400 pilots walked out in a dispute over pay and conditions on Friday, with 230 flights affected on Monday alone.

The carrier said that another 240 flights and 25,500 passengers would be affected tomorrow (Tuesday June 14), following a failed bid by mediators to end the dispute.

SAS said that the majority of flights operated with Swedish pilots would be cancelled, although it stressed that "flights operated with Danish and Norwegian pilots, as well as with our partner airlines, are planned to operate as normal".

Local media reports suggest the strike action could be costing the carrier as much as $1.2 million per day.

Meanwhile Air France pilots are currently taking part in a four-day strike, with short, medium and long-haul services all being affected.
