The development of the new facility comes as the Gulf carrier is ramping up capacity on flights between Dubai and Cape Town. Currently serving the route twice daily with its B777, the airline will launch a third daily service from July 4.

The Emirates lounge in Cape Town can accommodate up to 123 people comfortably, and is located in the international departures corridor next to Emirates’ preferred boarding point at Gate A3.

It features a dedicated dining area with a choice of bar seating, a menu of complementary hot and cold gourmet foods served buffet style, and a beverage selection consisting of champagne, spirits and South African and international wines.

Business travellers will be able to maintain their productivity by visiting the business centre that is equipped with touch-screen workstations, or using the complimentary wifi throughout the lounge. For those seeking privacy, there is a quiet seating area on the upper level of the facility.

Other lounge facilities include a TV area, shower suites and a prayer room.

The new lounge is open to all Emirates first class and business class customers, as well as Skywards platinum and gold members.

It joins the existing six facilities at Emirates’ hub in Dubai International Airport. The Gulf carrier also maintains dedicated lounges at Johannesburg, Auckland, Bangkok, Beijing, Birmingham, Brisbane, Colombo, Delhi, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Glasgow, Hamburg, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Los Angeles, Manchester, Melbourne, Milan, Munich, Narita, New York - JFK, Paris - CDG, Perth, Rome, San Francisco, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Zurich.
