Norwegian has launched its latest US route from Gatwick airport, with a thrice weekly service to San Francisco’s Oakland International airport.

The year-round route is being operated by the carrier’s new B787-9 aircraft configured for 344 seats – 309 in economy and 35 in premium class.

Flights depart Gatwick at 1335 on Monday, and 1300 on Thursday and Sunday, arriving into Oakland at 1635 and 1600 respectively.

Oakland International is located across the bay from San Francisco, around 22 miles from the city.

The new Gatwick route joins the recently launched flights to Boston (see news December 8, 2015), along with services to New York, LA, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale.

Earlier this year Norwegian’s CEO Bjorn Kjos outlined ambitious plans for Gatwick, including basing over 50 Dreamliner aircraft and 100 short-haul aircraft at the airport, should a second runway be approved (see news March 17).
