Wizzair is to launch its first flights from Gatwick airport, with a daily service to Bucharest starting on June 18.

The new route will complement the Hungarian carrier’s thrice-daily flights from Luton airport to Bucharest, and will be the only direct service from Gatwick to the Romanian capital.

Gatwick will be the ninth UK airport to join Wizzair’s network, the others being Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Doncaster-Sheffield, Glasgow, Liverpool and Luton.

With the new Gatwick-Bucharest service the carrier will offer a total of 76 routes to 14 countries from the UK.

Evening flights will depart from Gatwick for Bucharest at 2130 on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 2155 on Wednesday, and 2215 on Thursday.

The UK-bound leg will leave the Romanian capital at 1940 on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 2010 on Wednesday, and 2030 on Thursday.

Wizzair recently announced new services from Luton to Olsztyn-Mazury airport in northern Poland and Suceava in northern Romania (see news April 7).
