Marriott International is to open its first JW Marriott property in Japan.
The 150-room JW Marriott Hotel Nara will be the first luxury hotel in the city, located in the southern central Kansai region of Japan.
The hotel will be developed with the Mori Trust Group, a partnership which last month announced the rebranding of five hotels under the Marriott Hotels offering (see news February 23).
Commenting on the announcement Craig S. Smith, president and managing director of Marriott International, Asia Pacific, said:
“Tourism is booming in Japan and the market has seen an unprecedented increase in demand from both domestic and international travellers. We expect this trend to continue through the 2020 Olympics Games in Tokyo.”
JW Marriott Hotel Nara will begin construction in 2017, and is scheduled to open in the spring of 2020, the same year as the Tokyo Summer Olympics.
Marriott International currently operates 15 hotels in Japan across its Ritz-Carlton, Marriott Hotels, Renaissance, Courtyard and Autograph Collection brands.
