Marriott International has signed a development agreement with Eastern Crown Hotels Group to bring its mid-tier Fairfield by Marriott brand to mainland China.
The partnership will aim to sign 140 hotels within the next five years, with 100 of these to be operational by 2021.
The introduction of the Fairfied brand is part of Marriott International’s strategy to offer a broader spectrum of price tiers and locations across China.
“China is the fastest growing market in Asia for us. The rising disposable incomes of the middle class and development of the consumption-led economy is driving an increased demand for higher quality mid-range accommodation,” said Craig Smith, president and managing director of Marriott International Asia-Pacific.
“Fairfield will focus on young consumers and business travellers looking for a comfortable and productive stay at a great value.”
Currently, Marriott International has six brands operating within the mainland – Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, Marriott Hotels, Renaissance, Courtyard, and Marriott Executive Apartments.
In addition to Fairfield, the hospitality group plans to launch three new brands in China over the coming years – Autograph Collection Hotels, Edition, and Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts.
