The US and Cuba have agreed to restart scheduled commercial flights between the two countries.
The move will allow US airlines to sell tickets for flights to the Caribbean island, but will not affect the general American ban on tourism there.
US citizens travelling to Cuba have to meet one of 12 strict eligibility criteria, book charter flights or arrive via a third country.
United Airlines has already confirmed plans to fly to Cuba.
It said in a statement: "United Airlines congratulates the US and Cuban governments on reaching this historic arrangement, which will strengthen ties and economic development between the two countries.
"We look forward to offering service between our global gateways and Cuba as soon as we have approval to do so."
The US reopened its embassy in Havana in August for the first time since 1961.
