Intercontinental Hotels Group has opened Intercontinental Bordeaux - Le Grand Hotel.
The 130-room hotel is located in the central Place de la Comédie in a building that dates back to 1776, and is the group's fifth Intercontinental hotel in France.
The property was previously the Regent Grand Hôtel Bordeaux from 2007 until 2012, when it became the Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux & Spa.
Facilities include seven meeting rooms, an indoor pool and hammam, ten treatment rooms, a jacuzzi and a 360-degree rooftop beach which emulates the bay at Arcachon.
The Gordon Ramsay Group oversees the food and drink, including the fine dining Le Pressoir d'Argent restaurant.
The hotel will operate under a management agreement with Financière Immobilière Bordelaise.
IHG's four other Intercontinental properties in France are Intercontinental Paris - Le Grand (see news, August 2014), Intercontinental Paris - Avenue Marceau, Intercontinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu and Intercontinental Carlton Cannes.
In June, the group announced plans to open another hotel in Lyon, converting one of the oldest hospital buildings in France into the Intercontinental Lyon - Hotel Dieu (see news, June 16).
