Online charity auction starts today!

1 Nov 2015 by Clement Huang

It’s a great pleasure to announce that Business Traveller Asia-Pacific has reached its 10th anniversary of involvement with Chi Heng Foundation for its annual charity auction to raise funds for children and youths in China who have been affected by HIV and AIDS.

These youngsters are the victims of a most stigmatic affliction through no fault of their own, nor indeed of their parents, who through contaminated medical procedures were infected with HIV and AIDS at a time when selling blood was popular among impoverished rural communities.

Outcasts and orphans, they have been taken to the bosom of Chi Heng and given hope that their lives may still be as fulfilling as they can be. The ongoing work of Chi Heng and the generosity of our industry friends and you, the bidders, ensure that thousands of young hopes and dreams are kept alive.

During the 2014-15 school year, Chi Heng sponsored about 8,000 AIDS-impacted children in China, providing them with financial assistance and the opportunity to continue their education. In the coming year, the organisation hopes to reach out to at least 9,000 such youths through further expansion into central and southwestern China.

In late 2013, Chi Heng launched distance-learning programme VolunOnline, which enables volunteers in cities to connect with these children and help enrich their knowledge through online talks and interaction. Classes are held by connecting volunteer teachers in the Shanghai area with six multi-media learning centres in rural schools in Anhui, Henan and Yunnan provinces. Chi Heng is also seeking volunteers in Hong Kong, Beijing and other parts of China to get involved with this worthy programme.

Chi Heng’s care for AIDS-impacted children is also about healing broken hearts through psychosocial support. From September 2013 to January 2015, the “Heroes in the Mirror” project successfully adapted the Hero Book programme – originally designed and used in South Africa – for use in China. Feedback from the workshop participants and facilitators was excellent, and 132 students benefited from six Hero Book workshops during the summer of 2014.

This year also marked the 11th anniversary of Chi Heng’s summer camp programme. Chi Heng annually selects AIDS-impacted children with good academic records to join its summer camps in big cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, broadening their horizon and building their aspirations towards university studies and future careers.

As per previous years, there are four phases in this year’s auction, and to participate you can go to businesstraveller.asia/auction and bid on travel packages generously donated by our friends in the industry. The money raised will help to bring hope and a future to these youngsters.
