Avianca Brasil joins Star Alliance

27 Jul 2015 by Clement Huang
Domestic airline Avianca Brasil has officially joined the ranks of Star Alliance, enhancing the connectivity options for Asian customers flying to Brazil. Currently, the only Asian Star Alliance members operating flights to the country are Singapore Airlines and Air China. Avianca Brasil's entry into Star Alliance means that connections to Brazil are now easier as they can be booked on a single itinerary, and checked baggage will now be processed all the way through to their final destination. The Brazilian airline based in São Paulo is the fastest growing carrier in the country. It will offer 15 new destinations in Brazil, on top of the existing 12 that Star Alliance members already serve, bringing the total to 27. As expected, the 2.7 million members of Avianca Brasil’s Amigo frequent flyer programme (FFP) can now take advantage of Star Alliance FFP benefits. This includes earning and redeeming miles on all other member airline flights, while those with Amigo Gold and Diamond will also earn Star Alliance Gold status too. This entitles them to access more than 1,000 lounges worldwide, enjoy extra baggage allowance, priority baggage delivery, separate check-in counters and priority boarding. “Today we are setting the future pace of our airline and close a two year process which saw us move to a new IT platform, review and update our internal processes and specific training programme for our employees to ensure they can provide the best possible service to customers. We are proud to be part of the most experienced airline alliance and are pleased to put Brazil back on the Star Alliance map”, said Jose Efromovich, president and chief executive of Avianca Brasil.
