China United Airlines to acquire 50 Boeing 737-800s

15 Jul 2015 by Clement Huang

China Eastern Airlines plans to purchase 50 B737-800 Next Generation aircraft for its low-cost carrier subsidiary, China United Airlines.

The aircraft are expected to be delivered in stages from 2017 to 2019.

The purchase valued at approximately US$4.6 billion is part of the airline’s plan to increase its LCC operations.

The single-aisle aircraft's efficient design and light weight allows for better fuel efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, plus lower operation and maintenance costs than other models. Fitted with the new Boeing Sky Interior, the aircraft also promises an elevated passenger experience.

The popularity of single aisle aircrafts in Asia-Pacific has seen a rise in demand for the B737, particularly with Chinese carriers. In 2014, China Eastern purchased 80 B737 jets from Boeing valued at US$7.4 billion, Shandong Airlines ordered 50 last year, while Shenzhen Airlines recently ordered 46 of the popular Boeing models in June 2015.
