5 Apr 2015 by GrahamSmith

Marriott International has opened its first JW Marriott branded hotel in Italy.

The 250-room JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa is located on the private island of Sacca Sessola (also known as Isola delle Rose) in the Venetian lagoon.

There are five accommodations — 191 standard guestrooms; La Residenza contains 12 rooms designed in a "fresh Mediterranean style"; L'Uliveto has 26 rooms in a rural garden setting; La Maisonette has 20 split-level suites; and La Villa Rose is a private residence containing two bedrooms and with a private garden and pool.

The hotel's facilities include a spa, rooftop infinity pool and four restaurants including fine-dining Italian eatery Dopolavoro Dining Room.

The 40-acre Sacca Sessola island, which is located 15 minutes south of St Mark's Square by boat, was home to several hospitals during the 19th and 20th centuries.

JW Marriott Venice is the brand's sixth property. The luxury brand plans to open JW Marriott Bodrum in May, JW Marriott Cabo San Lucas Resort in the autumn, and JW Marriott Vancouver Place Stadium next year.
