Etihad Airways has launched a new daily service between Johannesburg and Abu Dhabi, thanks to an expanded codeshare agreement with partner, South African Airways (SAA).
The new service complements Etihad’s existing daily service between Abu Dhabi to Johannesburg and means Etihad’s customers now have an option of two daily flights between the Middle East and South Africa’s largest city.
Flight SA278 departs Johannesburg at 1015 daily and arrives in Abu Dhabi at 2025. The return service, flight SA279 will then take off from Abu Dhabi again at 2105 and arrive back in Johannesburg at 0615 the following day.
The codeshare service by SAA will be operated by a two-class A330-300, configured with 36 seats in business class, and 186 in economy class.
Reciprocally, SAA passengers now have access to 35 new codeshare destinations out of Etihad’s hub in Abu Dhabi, including connections to Europe, North and South East Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, and Australia.
“We are delighted to welcome South African Airways to Abu Dhabi, and are confident that its new service will prove popular with the increasing numbers of business and leisure travellers that fly between South Africa and key markets around the world,” said Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ chief commercial officer.
“This partnership will enable us to change the size and shape of our global networks – so that together we can offer more than 1000 city pair connections every week via our respective hubs.
