Air Asia X has launched its maiden flight to Chongqing. The long-haul low-cost affiliate of the Air Asia Group now flies to six destinations in China, including Chongqing, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai and Xian.
As one of the five national central cities in China, Chongqing is renowned for its role as a cultural and historical city in the country. Home to attractions such as the Three Gorges and Yangtze River, the ancient city of Ciqikou, and the Dazu Rock Carvings – a registered UNESCO World Heritage site. It is also a major manufacturing and transportation hub for Southwest China.
“We are proud to be the first and only airline to offer direct service from Kuala Lumpur to Chongqing, the gateway to the Yangtze River,” said Benyamin Ismail, acting chief executive of Air Asia X. “The addition of this latest route will enable us to further strengthen our network into China and boost passenger traffic growth as we link Air Asia’s robust network across ASEAN to China.”
