Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has announced the signing of a new property in Germany.
Thanks to a franchise agreement with Esplanade Operation GmbH (a subsidiary of Host Hotels & Resorts) the existing Grand Hotel Esplanade in Berlin will be converted into a Sheraton hotel.
The 394-room Sheraton Berlin Grand Hotel Esplanade will continue to be operated by the incumbent EVENT Hotel Group, which owns a minority stake in the property.
“We believe in the power of the Sheraton brand as well as in Starwood’s global expertise and systems,” said James F. Risoleo, executive vice president and managing director, Europe of Host Hotels & Resorts. “Together with Starwood and EVENT Hotel Group, this winning combination will create substantial value for this hotel.”
The capital and largest city of Germany needs no introduction. Known as a world city of culture, politics, media and science, Berlin boasts a very strong service sector, and a strong economy. Sheraton Berlin Grand Hotel Esplanade is located within close proximity of the Kurfürstendamm shopping area and Potsdamer Platz entertainment district.
According to Starwood, the conversion will take place over the coming months, with the company gradually rolling out its Sheraton brand’s signature offerings including a Sheraton Club lounge and Sheraton Fitness concept.
Other facilities already in service include an all-day dining outlet, a German-speciality restaurant, Harry’s New York Bar and a lobby bar. Current recreational and meeting facilities are limited to a swimming pool, and 12 meeting rooms.
