Marriott International has opened its 19th “Marriott Hotels” branded property in China. The new five-star hotel is located in Shunde – a district of Foshan in Guangdong Province, China.
Like many second and third tier cities in China, the former agricultural region has rapidly developed into an economic powerhouse with a booming manufacturing industry, making it an increasingly important business destination and an attractive city for expanding hotel brands.
It also enjoys a strategic location within the Pearl River Delta, offering good connectivity to Guangzhou, Shenzhen and even Hong Kong. As a Marriott spokesperson revealed, this will enable the hotel to particularly target MICE and corporate businesses.
"Marriott International already has a significant market presence in the key cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong in China. In 2015, Marriott will speed up expansion to the second and third-tier cities across China and further enrich the portfolio," said Peggy Cheng, public relations manager, Asia-Pacific, Marriott International.
"[We] see tremendous growth potential in targeting different market segments from luxury to mid-scale. This will allow us to provide our product and services to many more customers in many cities in China".
The meeting spaces at Shunde Marriott Hotel have a total capacity of 1,500 – the largest available in South Guangdong. These include a 1,400sqm pillar-less grand ballroom that comes with the largest LED display panel in town, as well as a 500sqm foyer. Five smaller meeting rooms with spaces ranging from 30 to 110sqm allow for functions of different scales. For a touch of romance, there is also an outdoor wedding pavilion.
All 258 guestrooms feature either a view of Shunfen Mountain Park or the city’s skyline. Each comes with modern amenities including a marble bathroom, minibar, work desk, and personal safe. Meanwhile, the executive rooms and suites are all located on the 28th floor, alongside the executive lounge.
Dining options include three restaurants serving both local and international fare. Goji Kitchen & Bar offers a daily buffet and a la carte selection, while Man Ho Chinese restaurant serves up authentic Cantonese cuisine. Rounding this up is The Lounge where guests can enjoy locally inspired cocktails, speciality drinks and Chinese teas.
Finally, those seeking a little R&R can look forward to a number of wellness options including an indoor swimming pool, a 24-hour health centre, and a spa with six individual treatment rooms.
