Qatar Airways to launch Asmara service

14 Aug 2014 by GrahamSmith

Qatar Airways will launch a twice-weekly service to Asmara later this year.

From December 4, the Gulf carrier will fly an A320 in a two-class configuration from Doha to the Eritrean capital. The aircraft will contain 12 seats in business class and 132 in economy.

On Thursdays and Saturdays, outbound service QR1443 departs Doha at 2030 and arrives in Asmara at 2359. On Fridays and Sundays, return service QR1444 leaves Asmara at 0245 and lands in Doha at 0605.

Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways CEO, said: "We are very pleased to be reinforcing our presence in Africa with the launch of scheduled flights to Asmara, allowing us to further expand our business on the African continent.

"There is clearly demand and huge potential to and from Eritrea, one of the many underserved markets in Africa."

Earlier this month, Qatar Airways opened its Al Mourjan Business Lounge at Doha's Hamad International Airport (see news, August 6).
