Qatar Airways confirms order for 50 B777X

16 Jul 2014 by Clement Huang

Qatar Airways (QR) of Doha just confirmed a deal worth around US$19 billion at list prices for the purchase of Boeing’s latest widebody aircraft – the B777-9X.

The news was released by QR at southern England’s Farnborough Airshow and comes as somewhat of a surprise, as QR CEO Al Baker said just yesterday that he wasn’t ready to make a commitment to the B777X program.

To top it all off, the Gulf carrier also said it had agreed purchase rights to buy a further 50 777X aircraft, potentially doubling the size of the deal.

As reported by Business Traveller Asia-Pacific (see here), QR recently rejected delivery of three A380 superjumbos due to cabin interior quality flaws.
