Various news agencies are reporting that a Virgin Australia (formerly Virgin Blue) passenger plane has been hijacked.
Reports suggest that the plane, while flying between Brisbane and Bali was forced to land in the Indonesian island. According to the BBC, local police have told the Indonesian media that “a passenger tried to enter the cockpit and take over the plane but has since been arrested.”
Several new sources and social media platforms have also suggested that the passenger in question was intoxicated, when he tried to enter the cockpit area. This has not been confirmed though. In addition the flight was scheduled to fly to Bali, so it is not clear whether the hijacking took place while on land.
Virgin Australia started operating in 2000, and now flies to 29 cities in Australia, along with a number of international destinations including Bali, Phuket, Abu Dhabi and Los Angeles.
